The event began with remarks from the Head of Sibolga City BPS, Sabar Alberto Harianja. Followed by the inflation release for May 2024, Sibolga City. In May 2024 m-to-m monthly inflation will be 0.33 percent with the main commodities contributing to monthly inflation being red chilies, shallots, mackerel/bloated fish, gold jewelry and hand-rolled kretek cigarettes (SKT). Annual inflation y-o-y in May 2024 is 4.15 percent. The main commodities contributing to annual inflation are red chilies, rice, shallots, machine-made kretek cigarettes (SKM), and gold jewelry. Meanwhile, the main commodities that contribute to annual deflation are skipjack fish/scale fish, teter fish, lemongrass fish, tuna fish/ambu-ambu fish, and disposable baby diapers/diapers.

After the release of inflation, discussions continued on controlling inflation by stakeholders in Sibolga City. Disperindag stated that it routinely monitors the prices of basic goods needs in Sibolga City in 2 markets, namely Nauli Market and Inpress Market. "Indeed, the price of red chilies fluctuates in the market," he added. Andres Leiman Silalahi, KPPN Sibolga appreciated this activity. This is in line with the role of KPPN in monitoring and evaluating inflation. He explained the role of the APBN in controlling inflation by monitoring fiscal spending related to handling inflation.

Bulog Sibolga provided an explanation regarding rice experiencing deflation this month. This is because many areas have already harvested rice, such as in Padangsidimpuan and Central Tapanuli. Afrinaldi Sinaga explained that there was food aid so that the supply of rice on the market was sufficient and guaranteed. Bank Indonesia Sibolga informed that the increase in shallots was based on observations of crop failures in several areas due to weather influences. Next, there is a need to discuss fish prices and be more focused, so that fish prices are more stable. Yanni Peter Latuheru, Head of RRI Sibolga, stated that according to his function, he is ready to report on inflation to the public and invite stakeholders to utilize RRI's multi-platform media in conveying information about inflation to the public.
