Indonesian Mosaic RRI Sibolga "Inflation May 2024"

June 5, 2024 | Other Activities

On Wednesday (05/06/2024), the BPS-Statistics of Sibolga was invited by RRI Sibolga to the Indonesian Mosaic event. Indonesian Mosaic is broadcast live via RRI Pro 1 at 15.00 – 16.00 WIB on RRI Sibolga. The event was hosted by Maufdan Jega with guest speakers Sabar Alberto Harianja, Head of BPS-Statistics of Sibolga and Walter Situmeang, Head of BPS-Statistics of Sibolga Team accompanied by Christ Egy Natama Pardede, Member of BPS-Statistics of Sibolga Price Statistics Team.

The Mozaik Indonesia program provides information and education to RRI listeners regarding inflation in May 2024. Sabar A. Harianja explains the latest conditions for inflation in May which have been released by BPS-Statistics of Sibolga. It was recorded that Sibolga City experienced monthly inflation (month to month) of 0.33%, cumulative inflation (year to date) of 2.73% and annual inflation (year on year) of 4.15%. The commodities that cause inflation include red chilies and shallots. Walter Situmeang explained that the increase in the price of red chilies and shallots was due to reduced supply due to delayed deliveries. Apart from that, the level of consumption of the people of Sibolga City for red chilies and shallots is quite high so that the inflation weight for these two commodities has a large inflation weight. This of course affects the calculation of inflation figures. Walter Situmeang added that the trend of increasing prices for red chilies and shallots continued in the first week of June based on the results of data collection and supervision from BPS-Statistics of Sibolga.

Commodities that have an influence on deflation include fish and rice. Fish commodity prices have been experiencing a downward trend over the last few months. According to Walter Situmeang, although fish prices have fallen, if this decline continues it will have an impact on the economic welfare of fishermen in Sibolga City. Apart from that, Sabar A. Harianja added that the price of rice experienced a slight decline due to harvest in several areas, such as Central Tapanuli and Padangsidimpuan City.

Inflation figures for May 2024 need to be of public concern. Moreover, cumulative inflation until May 2024 has reached 2.73%. This is of course a concern for the Sibolga City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID). This is because this figure has approached the upper limit target of 3.5%. Apart from that, in June 2024 TPID must continue to monitor the prices of goods and services because there is Eid al-Adha and the new school year. This will of course have an impact on inflation figures for June. For this reason, BPS-Statistics of Sibolga continues to coordinate with TPID Sibolga City to provide input/insight regarding prices according to field conditions to achieve inflation targets and price stability. Horas, Oii Dusanak.
