On Wednesday (04/09/2024), BPS-Statistics of Sibolga filled an event on RRI Pro 1 Sibolga on the Mozaik Indonesia program. The theme raised was "What's Up With Deflation (A2D2)". The event took place from 15.00 to 16.00 WIB and was hosted by Host Edi Suheri. Speakers: Sabar Alberto Harianja as Head of BPS-Statistics of Sibolga  and Walter Situmeang as Head of the BPS-Statistics of Sibolga  Price Statistics Team.

The purpose of taking the theme "A2D2" is to provide information and education to loyal listeners of RRI Sibolga regarding the current conditions of Sibolga (August 2024) which is experiencing deflation. In August 2024, Sibolga City recorded monthly (m-to-m) Deflation of 0.22 percent, annually (y-on-y) Inflation of 2.21 percent, and calendar year (y-to-d) Inflation of 1.77 percent. The contributors to Deflation (m-to-m) in August 2024 in Sibolga City were the average decline in the price of goods and services in the Food, Beverages, and Tobacco group by -1.02 percent and the Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance group by -0.16 percent. The main commodities contributing to Deflation (m-to-m) were red chilies, shallots, tomatoes, skipjack tuna and teter fish.

Does the deflation (m-to-m) experienced by Sibolga City in the last 2 months (July and August 2024) indicate a decline in people's purchasing power? From the results of field data collection conducted by BPS-Statistics of Sibolga, it was explained that the deflation (m-to-m) experienced by Sibolga City in July and August 2024 was due to abundant stock and low demand for commodities that experienced price decreases. Therefore, it is still too early to say that there has been a decrease in purchasing power by the people of Sibolga City.

The resource person reminded the Sibolga TPID not to be complacent and to continue to be vigilant in the coming months. Especially in November 2024 there will be a democratic party-Pilkada in Sibolga City and in December 2024 there will be a big day of Christmas and New Year (NATARU).
